    the rules and regulations, intended to focus on minorities and women, protect people from being discriminated against. The truth, however, is that discrimination is still a very serious problem in  our country. And, not surprisingly, it has become a more evident problem since September 11, 2001, when more and more people are being discriminated against due to the possibility that  they may have Middle Eastern ties of one kind or another. In fact, it seems that many Italian Americans are being discriminated against due to the fact that their appearance  is similar to a Middle Eastern individual. In the following paper we examine some of the conditions related to discrimination in the workplace, proving that whatever some may think or  believe, it still exists. Employees Position The employee is the individual who will be most affected by any discrimination in the workplace and their particular position can be incredibly varied.  For example, an employee may argue that they are not being given promotion opportunities due to their skin color, their ethnic background, or due to the fact they are a  woman, or even a man in a particular position. We can see this in perhaps any industry or field of employment across the country. Perhaps a middle aged white male  would not be employed in the inner city schools systems because he was white. Or perhaps a male African American male may not be promoted in the field of nursing  because he was a male. There are many different possible scenarios when talking about the position of the employee in situations involving discrimination. In more specific terms we look at  one individual, a man of Muslim faith, who experienced discrimination in his workplace following September 11.
