of ones soul. This battle of technology and humanity is evident throughout his work. The protagonist of the story is a mathematician named D-503. His largest problem is that  he has had a stroke of conscience. His conflict is not only with his emerging soul. With the help and inspiration of I-330 he begins to question the Brave New  World order and together with I-330 begins to learn how to beat the system. It is evident and thus proves the argument that most of the humanity has been  regulated and formulated out of existence in this other world of Zamyatins. For example, the One State perceives that the universe is a highly ordered. To reflect this belief, then,  human beings are strictly regimented, monitored, and well defined. Thus, there is a numbering system, which has done away with personalized names. "Every morning, with six-wheeled precision we  -- millions of us -- get up as one. At the same hour, in million-headed unison we start work; and in million-headed unison we end it"(Zamyatin, p12).  In strictly scientific analysis this way of functioning is optimal. With such a regimentation everything can be accounted for. It is efficient and as  such each person contributes much like the spokes on a wheel or the gears in a machine. Even emotion is regulated and defined by a mathematical formula. For example, D-503  explains happiness by form of equation, as well as determining what the likelihood is of his being assigned to another sector to work. However, what shakes his world is when  I-330 is able to bring so many variables in that he can no longer deal in the concrete and must attempt the abstract thought. Here, then, is where true humanity
