    important to have an understanding of the organization involved, as well as the environment in which it is working. One important tool that can help in this endeavor is the  SWOT analysis. Analyzing an organizations strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats can go a long way toward helping an organization make the right decision.  How would this work? Lets take an example of how an organization would develop a telecare program for the elderly through use of a SWOT analysis. The strengths of  such a program would be that implementation would mean that the elderly and disabled would definitely benefit, as it would save costs and require fewer visits to health care professionals,  meaning more convenience (MedTel, 2006). It would also foster independence among the elderly that prefer to live alone, as the technology works and provides a degree of safety for the  patient (MedTel, 2006). What are the weaknesses of such a program? One huge weakness is that many applications are available and  useable only via computer, and not many older people are knowledgeable about computers (MedTel, 2006). Furthermore, it can be difficult for patients to accept technological changes, to take orders from  a machine, as it were, even if the machine is connected to a health-care professional on the other end. Along those lines,  another weakness is that elderly people prefer dealing face-to-face with their health-care providers. Trying to be treated from a distance could be a little disconcerting.  Yet the opportunities for such a project are enormous - it would allow smaller hospitals to extend services and offer new types of treatment (MedTel, 2006).
