    it can be said are already suffering a death of some type, whether it is mentally, emotionally or spiritually, though they have not physically died. The process of aging, grieving  and the process of death is eloquently depicted in Terry Kays book, To Dance with the White Dog. This book shows the joyous celebration of a couple who have  managed to weather fifty years together. As they are surrounded by family and friends at the beginning of the book, it is not difficult to see how much the couple  still care for and depend on one another. Sam and Cora Peek are the quintessential golden couple who are enjoying each other, life and their grandchildren. Then Cora dies leaving  Sam devastated. As he deals with his own depression over the loss of his mate, his well intentioned family try to snap him out of it. They become intrusive and  interfering by trying to regiment his whole day, find him new friends, even regulate when he will eat his meals and what he will have. Finally, as any sane person  would, he rebels. Shortly after this, a white dog shows up. At first Sam tries to shoo her home but eventually he adopts the dog and shares the news  with his daughters, who think hes gone off the deep end with grief. She becomes his companion, gives him a reason to get out of bed in the morning,  and in a sense becomes his guardian angel. The problem is, the white dog is shy. She only trusts Sam and when the family shows up, she disappears, only to  return when they are gone and Sam needs her. For example, Sam decides to take off on a road trip. Before her death, Cora had expressed a desire to attend
