everything going for her, Efuru has bad luck in the love department. In fact, nearly every man that she is interested in, or married to, ends up being rotten to
her. In Flora Nwapas book, Efuru, the plight of the African woman is exampled and the subtle truth of self worth is presented. It can be stated that part
of what makes a good character is that they are three dimensional. They are that curious blend of good and evil, saint and sinner, and have the unmitigated ability to
contradict themselves in a type of self deception that sometimes reveals more about their character than mindless conformity to social situations would. Efurus first mistake is when she elopes
with a young man named Adizua. Her family and friends are understandably upset, but because she has a special relationship with her father, she is able to maintain some semblance
of familial peace. It seems as if Efuru has life by the tail, but shortly after she has her first child, her husband begins to act strangely. He disappears for
days on end and no one seems able to locate him. The baby takes ill and Efuru must face this, and the subsequent death of her child, alone. In fact,
Adizua cannot be found for the funeral and it is then that Efuru finds out that Adizua has married another woman in another village. Ashamed and bereaved from the loss
of her child, she leaves and goes home to daddy. History repeats itself when he meets and marries a man named, Eneberi. They are only married a short while
