This is true partly because the team leader is in a position to influence many other variables that affect the performance of the entire team.  An earlier study of sourcing teams identified a direct link between sourcing team leadership and other variables critical to team interaction and performance. Effective team leadership creates a strong  and positive relationship to team performance. The most effective teams normally have leaders whom the team members rate highly. On the other hand, those teams with lower performance  records have leaders who were rated lower by the members (Trent 29).
