    and the result has been a sudden and unexpected reduction demand and the need to lay off staff when only a few months earlier here was a great deal of  optimism regarding growth. In this paper we will consider the problems that exist and the approaches which may be taken to resolve these problems. 2. The Problem The major  problem is the reduction in demand, over the previous 6 months five contracts totalling $3 million have been and other sales have been lost. The impact of this is that  there is an over capacity within the facilitates and there is the need to cut costs dramatically. The cost had also increased recently as a result of the decision to  increase the engineering and financial services departments. The need to loose jobs is a problem, but is not the route problem, as cost cutting is a result of the problem,  and it may also be seen as a short term measure, it does not tackle the issue that is creating the fall in revenue. The fact that revenue has  dropped has been identified in the case as the cause of the need to cut costs. The loose of the contracts is not the only indicator, but there have also  been new competitors that are starting to the market share and reducing overall demand. In effect the company has lost the competitive advantage that it had once held. As  a company Northeast Data Resources appear to have developed a new product which was in demand on the market. The product was innovative and the first of its kind. Therefore,  the company was able to differentiate through the functions of the product, but also gain a first mover advantage. The company leveraged this position and continued to develop. However as
