    Former General Electric CEO Jack Welch has been admired for many years, but that admiration turned to near hero worship during the 1990s. GE is an old company, and  a large one. It had become a lumbering behemoth at a time when all of American manufacturing was being challenged by others more efficient and effective means of producing  high-quality products at lower costs than American manufacturers could attain. Jack Welch has since retired, and Harvards Business School has instituted the Jack  Welch Award for Effective Leadership. Always adept at managing, Jack Welch exemplified the effective leader. Recipients of the Harvard award are to do the same. The purpose  here is to nominate yoga master Bikram Choudhury for the award. The Efficient Leader A leader is one who can effectively bring opposing  views into submission to his own while still recognizing and honoring differences of opinion. The leader acknowledges that there are other, opposing views, but still adheres to that s/he  has set for himself and for those reporting to him. A group of managers can heartily disagree on a single specific issue or on many, but the leader among  them can engender and nourish a spirit that strives for cooperation and true efforts to reach compromise. This has been the approach of Bikram Choudhury for nearly 40 years.  One of the most pervasive characteristics of GEs management is that it refuses to believe - or let employees believe - it has  all the answers to all the problems that can arise. As competitors within GEs industries were downsizing, cutting costs and demoralizing their workforces, GE was watching. It also
