and age of plenty, speaking of the United States, water is something that is easy to take for granted. Most Americans dont drink the suggested eight glasses a day, claiming  that a diet soda or fruit juice stands in for the precious liquid. Given its inherent properties, this would seem to not be the case. There are several sub-genres to  dehydration all of which share the common cause as the loss of water from the body. These are Heat Exhaustion, Heat Stroke, and deprivation dehydration. Water in the body tends  to act as a coolant, a conduit for other minerals and vitamins, and also acts as a regulating buffer for the bodies systems. In the case of Heat Exhaustion, a  condition that is caused by overexposure to the sun or another type of heat source, results in a loss of water, and the depletion of certain salts and electrolytes. The  loss of these elements from the body can cause, but are not limited to, severe headaches, weakness, dizziness, blurred vision, and sometimes unconsciousness(Columbia Encyclopedia 1993). The body temperature is  not elevated, so permanent damage hardly ever occurs. However, the depending on the depletion to the bodys systems, there might also be accompanying body cramps as the body seeks to  regulate its systems. Treatment for this type of debilitation include administering a supplemental solution to replace the water, minerals, and ions that have been depleted from the body(Columbia Encyclopedia 1993).  Heat stroke as opposed to Heat exhaustion can be fatal in as little as an hour of suffering. This is due, largely in part to the bodys subsequent rise in  temperature. A human body can not withstand a high temperature for very long before brain damage sets in. Most types of heat stroke occur in the summer when temperatures can
