Jabberwocky and The Jumblies share similar characteristics. One of these characteristics would be that up until the time of Lewiss Jabberwocky, poetry had been geared primarily for adults. Even if
poets wrote supposed poems for children, they were just watered down versions of adult themes. However, with the creation of Jabberwocky, a whole door was opened to writing for the
imagination of the child, and their sense of humor. In short, Jabberwocky and The Jumblies are both great examples of words at play. However, one should not allow the
young-ish spirit of the piece cloud ones mind to the classical elements that are still an integral part of both pieces. The elements of rhythm, meter, imagery, setting are but
a few of the elements that can still be found in both poems. The imagery in Jabberwocky is brillig (brilliant), and is intended, one could say, to capitalize on the
ready imaginations of the child to grasp it and to bring it to life in their minds eye. Twas brillig and the slithy toves
