membrane of the cell, or the neuromuscular junction, for example open the door to a wide range of possibilities. What is the matrix of the bone or the varying types
of muscles? The various systems of the body engage in a daily symphony of which most are simply not aware. MOVEMENT OF IONS THROUGH THE CELL MEMBRANE The cell is
a remarkable system of obtaining converting and maintaining its own stasis while providing and delivering energy to the various functions of the bodys systems. The membrane itself is like a
round envelope or bubble that separates the components of the cell from the environment in which it finds itself. This membrane serves several functions. First, it acts as a barrier,
and secondly, it is permeable enough to allow certain specific molecules to enter and exit. This exchange of molecules is intrinsically necessary, it can be said to the cells integrity.
Transport of nutrients and various chemicals through the membrane are conducted for the most part via bioelectric and biochemical reactions. Certain elements contain positive ions and others negative ions.
The cell utilizes these polarities to pull or push chemicals in and out. This membrane is called a lipid bilayer, which is comprised mostly of protein and lipids. The ions,
depending on their variety enter the cell in one of three very specific methods. The easiest way seems to be that they are simply absorbed into the cell by contact
