Within the last two years there have been over thirty-five alcohol-related student deaths in the United States. Of these, eighty-five percent were directly related to fraternity/sorority activities. This  is far too many students dying unnecessarily because of the un-monitored use of alcohol in University-related activities. It is my heartfelt concern that any activity sanctioned by the  University should uphold the standards and concerns of all students and faculty associated with the University. By allowing the free use of alcohol by University organizations, both on and  off campus we are doing a great disservice. Binge drinking among college-age students is at an alltime high. While these drinking problems in most instances were begun while  in high school, it is still the responsibility of the University to ensure the safety of its students associating with University related activities. Enclosed is my proposal to address this  demanding problem. While it will not solve all the problems of binge drinking among college-age students, it will address the problem and provide a means to lessen the impact  to our students. Binge drinking not only kills innocent students, but kills innocent people in the surrounding communities when these drinkers get behind the wheel of their car.  The University should not be a breeding ground to perpetuate this problem, it should provide an atmosphere of learning to deal with all of lifes situations. My proposal  provides thoughtful research and insight regarding the addressing of these problems. II.
