    workplace. More specifically, authors wanted to find out whether or not massage therapy would be helpful in the workplace as a part of the traditional workday. If employees--and in this  case in a downsized corporation--were to receive massages during breaks, would their level of stress decrease? To discover whether or not this was the case, a team of psychologists created  an experiment. The hypothesis of the study is that on-site massage therapy in the workplace reduces employee anxiety. There would only be 34 participants in all who were recruited  from the dispersing of flyers. While a snowball sample was used, attention was certainly paid to distribution. Volunteers were selected randomly within the gender group, and they were also  randomly assigned to the control and experimental groups. Attention was paid to evenly selecting people from a variety of socioeconomic groups. Age, marital status and prior experience with relaxation techniques  as well as with the number of hours the individuals work were taken into account. In the experiment, some independent variables appear to be gender, number of hours worked, and  education level and the dependent variable is anxiety, something that was measured by STAI or the Straight-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The procedure that the experimenters used was to  arrange a meeting of all employees at the particular company that was experiencing downsizing. The study procedures, along with the purpose of the study, had been explained to the volunteers.  Those who agreed to participate in the study, after absorbing the cursory information, had signed agreements in respect to what would occur. A demographics questionnaire was completed at that point.  At random, all participants were assigned to either the experimental or control group.
