most common P value/significance level used in studies. The investigator found the body weight of the group treated with E2 increased 31 percent less than the control group. Plasma
insulin concentrations were elevated to P value of 0.01 in males who were vehicle-treated as compared to male mice treated with E2. They also found a different between younger mice
and older mice at a value of <0.01. It is extremely difficult to determine sample size in this article. One must sift through a multitude of data because the
investigators never simply say how many mice were included in each of their experitments. It would seem there were 8 mice in the vehicle-treated mice and 4 that were not
treated. It is difficult to discern if the "n" reported in each section are the same mice reported in another section. Introduction This article has few subheadings. It
reads more like a "how to" article than one reporting a study. The author goes into great detail about how mice were injected, how incisions were made and so on.
The author does report prior research conducted by himself and others, including the development of transgenic animal models. One model, for instance, causes "rapid onset of severe hyperglycemia associated
with the progressive loss of islet area and insulin immunoreactivity in the pancreas" (Geisler, 2002). The author also notes that female mice seem to be less severely affected than males.
The author speculates on the reasons for this phenomenon. Even though this is not a very clearly written article, the reader does get the idea of what the researcher is
investigating and he ties it together in the discussion section. Theoretical Foundation The theoretical foundation is outlined in what would be the introduction. The basic foundational theory is that
