    way of looking at a given plotline. This is called writers voice and is the single most identifying quality in a writer. It is this voice that the reader makes  a connection with and it is this voice that gives the reader a hint as to the inner workings of the author and the authors experiences. This is definitely the  case with Frank Conroy and his book, Stop Time. Throughout the book, the student will want to mention, he will write it in first person, taking the reader into  the heart and lungs of a young boy, running through the fields after his friends, or into the experience of a young man whose heart has been broken for the  first time. The emotional connection that he is able to establish with this point of view is particularly effective. This enigmatic writer begins the book with his childhood. A  defining example, one which has great significance toward understanding Conroy, is when he meets his best friend Tobey and the adventures he recalls sharing with his boyhood friend. What is  particularly interesting to note, the student might wish to add in, about this episode is that the kids live in the moment. They are not thinking ahead to dinner  that night, or of what they would be doing at school the next day. They are only thinking about the moment at hand. Frank speaks about his friend, stating  that he couldnt "remember everything about meeting Tobey," only that he wondered "how he could walk on the hot, sharp coral with out shoes." No mention of what he looked  like, what he was wearing at the time, or what he talked like. He goes on to talk about how he and Tobey built a tree house in the top
